Porn and Chicken

The Porn and Chicken Dance Party is a weird bird, man, and for people who had never experienced it before, it made sense. As the guy taking pictures in the back of the bar next to the ladies room (which [I hope] is not nearly as creepy as it sounds), I was obviously some sort of figure of authority so people kept asking me what was going on. For the uninitiated, here’s the low-down:
Porn and Chicken started in a cheeky bar in Wrigleyville with pin-ups on the wall, fatty American cuisine (deep fried bacon with gravy) and trashy movies on the screens (Teeth, Repo: The Genetic Opera, and several of John Waters’ sleazefests and Russ Meyers’ boobfests were shown on the regular). Their Monday special was all-you-can-eat chicken wings and, probably after a late-night viewing of the based-on-a-true-story Comedy Central movie Porn ‘n Chicken (where a bunch of Yale students hold a regular porn and chicken movie night that inspires them to make their own porno), add a lineup of ridiculous 70s porn to the night. From there, bartenders Dom and Mandi decide that they can really blow the night up by piling on more and more awesome shit (Coyote Ugly-style get-naked-and-pour-booze-down-people’s-throats service, plus DJs, themed nights, the occasional live photo booth, and a weekly surprise that could be strippers, piñatas, water balloon fights, comedians, and the like) until they eventually outgrew the only bar where the event would’ve made sense in the first place.
With their move to Wicker Park, and the much bigger digs of Evil Olive, the event has had a lot more room to breathe and expand. Their baller inaugural party featured live performances by Clique Talk and Ammunition, a guest set by DJ Demchuk, and residents Macabre Monster, J-Sephora, Dan Dwyer and Orvtronixxx.
