We in the Midwest: New Mixtape from British Knights
Posted on November 8th, 2009 by eric
Sometimes I’m surprised at how many djs, promoters and musicians divide their time evenly between the world of dance parties and the world of metal. British Knights is coming up in both scenes right. When I met him, he was playing guitar in the bands Hitodama (which I’d put on par with Pelican as a kind of intricate sludge) and Partee Shark (which was more lets get drunk and trash the place). When DJ Demchuk and I were looking to expand the End of the World Dance Party at Sonotheque, we brought him in (the show has since become more of a travelling affair happening regularly at Lava, and intermittently at people’s houses). Since then, he’s become a host and resident at the dance parties KDM at Rino, Sound Clash at Darkroom and Cobra Lounge’s new metal night Let’s Get Weird.
With The 80’s Weren’t GoodTo You, he returns to his roots with a mix of refixes of (mostly) West Coast punk from the 1980s, including Operation Ivy, The Descendants, and the Dead Kennedys.
He’s working towards a full EP of punk/hardcore remixes, but just put up a promo minimix for download.
