Black and Brown Punk Show: Northside
Posted on August 26th, 2012 by admin
The first night of the Black and Brown Punk Show featured a variety of styles of music and art. It was a mash up of hiphop with Redline Villains and breakdancing from Connect Force’s Youth Crew, punk from Lechuza and Tension, and multilingual balladry from Jochy Salvidar. The show went down at Uptown youth/community center Alternatives, which, decorated all over with detritus from their circus and graffiti classes, continues to be one of the most interesting spaces on the north side. There are few others where I might see a crusty kid and a spooky kid having a poledancing competition while a r’n’b chanteuse rides by on a borrowed skateboard, dropping her ass to the juke music DJ Flymaxxx was dropping.
