Can’t Stop Dancing

One of the first events Glitterguts ever did was this charity event at Lake Forest College in some sort of student union/cafeteria/bar area. The one thing I remember was the DJs. Their whole set was nothing special, just a lot of mainstream radio bangers and nostalgaic 90s cuts (e.g. Skee Lo, Montell Jordan, Coolio, Bone Thugs), but then they ended the night with a reggae set, a mix of classic shit, some remixes, some old crossover shit (e.g. Yellowman, Mad Lion, and Just Ice) and some new hood-ass carribbean shit I don’t even have a frame of reference for. I’ve been seeing a lot of that lately: the DJ playing a palatable club set and then ending on a heavy set. I saw Z-Trip do it a few weeks ago with a drum’n’bass set at DEMF and Willy Joy do it with a dubstep set at Dicky C’s birthday rave. i’m not sure what he was playing, but Zebo did something pretty similar when he closed out the night here.
Rehab’s coming into its own at its new spot at Debonair social club, with a packed outdoor patio, a wilder dance floor, and a bunch of fucked up visuals entrancing the crowd courtesy of The Toxic Avenger, Devo, and Super Mario Bros: The Movie. Tonight featured sets by Derek Specs, Zebo and Hiroki alongside residents Team Bayside High and Yello Fever.
