Rock the Disco with Villains and Steed Lord

I have always preferred to go out with a bang, instead of a whimper. With that sad, Rock the Disco was a great way to end our time in California, with helicopters shining lights through the skylights of an old warehouse, sirens screeching, and hundreds of costumed hooligans emerging out of fog machine smoke and onto the streets of Compton. The only thing better than that would’ve been…well…if the party hadn’t been fucking busted.

Tonight was going to be big. Like old-school rave-style big with new school music. There were tanks, lazers, black light and neon everywhere, and we weren’t even the only photobooth (Glamer1 was holding it down on the other side of the room). People were lined up early to get in and by eleven there were over 400 people inside.

In a side note, I don’t know much about Compton outside of lyrics from The Chronic, but how dangerous is it? Outside of the pack of abandoned dogs that roamed the street with impunity, it didn’t seem any more dangerous than your run-of-the-mill desolated, empty factory neighborhood (maybe nicer), but on my way out, some of the DJs were showing genuine concern for how far I was gonna have to walk back to my car.

Sigh. The party life is fun, and maybe someday it will kill me. Either way, I’m looking forward to getting back out this way the next chance I get.
