Lasalle Power Company is kind of the shit. I’ve never been there before, because downtown Chicago is a scary and expensive place, but yeah, it’s kind of awesome. The space (which once held the Michael Jordan restaurant and some lame upscasle margarita joint I went to once with a bunch of bourgie North Shore cats I met in Israel) is an interior decorator’s wet dream. It looks like they poured a lot of money into making the place look classy, and have a rock’n’roll flavor without ending up tacky.
I don’t know if they throw a lot of shows there, but the space has a killer soundsystem, and seems perfectly suited for dance parties.
Diesel put together tonight’s event as another Lollapalooza party, featuring 2009 Lollapalooza performers Moneypenny (premiering their live electro pop setup for the first time with a troupe of dancers backing them up), He Say She Say, Dark Wave Disco, Yello Fever, and Lollapalooza veterans Flosstradamus, who had half the room on stage by the end of their set.
Members Only AV opened the night for a pretty spectacular set, that included a live guitarist joining them to play along with that electro remix of the Smashing Pumpkins’ song “Zero” and Daft Punk’s “Robot Rock”. By the way, for the hardest guitar you’ll ever here in a funk song (at least in a funk song that doesn’t feature Eddie Hazel), check out Breakwater’s “Release the Beast” which Daft Punk sampled for “Robot Rock”.
