St. Roch Saturdays (NOLA!)

Posted on March 6th, 2011 by admin

Wow. St. Roch Saturdays is kind of like nothing I’ve ever seen before (at least nothing I’ve ever seen outside of a punkhouse squat). Pretty much, it was a dirty hip hop dance party for crusties (and others, but there was definitely a high quotient of stick-and-poke face tattoos). The night started with a set from sludge metal band MARS, and ended with Rusty Lazer and DJ Q spinning a mix of homegrown bounce and classic 90s hip hop. It was raucous and sweaty as fuck, and there shouldn’t be anything weird about good people singing along to great music, but there was something just out of this world about a bunch of crusties screaming at the top of their lungs to Lauryn Hill’s “That Thing”.
