Time Travellers’ Ball

The Time Travellers’ Ball was a clusterfuck. At first it was a clusterfuck in a very good way, with a lot of people in costumes, and girls dancing on speakers, and a mix of breakdancers, strippers, and half-naked twinks hanging from the ceiling doing trapeze acrobatics. The music was great. The sound system was impeccable. The space was cool. A few hours in, this party had the potential to be the jam of the year. And then, for some reason, the vibrations got weird.

I don’t know if it was too many cooks spoiling the soup (the party was actually a merger of two huge costume parties) or just too many bros spoiling a good time (dudes who weren’t there for either of the parties, but just to be somewhere in general, tweaking out in corners, getting grabby with girls, and getting into fights with each other). It was still a blast for a lot of people but some folks, sensing something was off, just had to book. One of my friends commented that “I looked around and there were some dudes in their fifties, and then I looked the other way and there was some kid who couldn’t have been more than ten”. I fully support people in their fifties coming out and getting buck at my parties, but preteenagers are a little bit beyond the pale (it’s not safe for them, they don’t really have the same boundaries established as everybody else, and that’s the type of shit that’ll get me locked up). In the end, it was the bogus dudes fighting that got the party shut down.

Still the people who dressed up looked dope, the people who came to party got down, and I think I took some of the best pictures I’ve taken all year. Check em out.

Much love to DJ Demchuk, Mikul Wing, British Knights, DJ Qbot, and Broken Disco 1980 for reppin the Time Traveller’s Ball. Much love to Pure Magical Love, Clique Talk, Starfoxxx, Mars + Arche and Medical Grade for throwin down for Furry Lovin.

Our friend Maggie Mui took some awesome roaming shots for her site The Crapper, and Bryan Arturo took some great ones for Disco Dirty.
