Unbound at Reversible Eye

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that anything goes in Humboldt Park… the neighborhood has “cleaned up” a lot over the last decade (and exponentially over the last two) so it’s not necessarilly “no blood, no foul”, but there’s a lot of wiggle room for shit to get weird and go on unchecked. And even here, where gentrifiers make jokes about playing gunshot or firecracker? (don’t do that, it’s ignorant), where the Sunday morning storefront church crowd might cross paths with a practicing punk rock marching band, and where the folks stumbling home from Continental and the Clipper might intersect with a naked art party spilling out onto the stoop, Unbound’s crowd never fails to raise a few eyebrows.

Unbound, held once a month at the Reversible Eye gallery, has become established as Chicago’s only death rock night, and the crowd, dressed to the nines in deathhawks and goth bouffants, strappy bondage gear and sleek neo-fascist suits, would look alien in any neighborhood in the city, but especially when they’re intermingling with the dudes who make a full time job of hanging out in front of one of the seediest bodegas on the north side.

This month’s Unbound featured live sets from Lestat and Loto Ball Show, plus DJ sets from Dirt Nap!, Rickbats, and Cadaverine. Scroll down to see the full set of GlitterGuts photo booth pictures from the night. Right click any image to download.
